OPSI Systems Signs Distribution Agreement with Parmalat

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – 11 November 2008: Parmalat (www.parmalat.co.za), one of the major players worldwide in the production and distribution of milk products, has selected OPSI Systems' PLATO to optimise milk collection planning in South Africa.
The agreement was finalized and the project awarded to OPSI Systems after a successful pilot study and specification workshop. The four-phase project will have OPSI Systems' PLATO primarily planning milk collections from Parmalat's nearly 400 dairies to its various plants, using more than 80 vehicles.
PLATO will handle the planning and scheduling during the third phase of the project. During this phase, Parmalat will also take advantage of PLATO's powerful Track and Trace module. PLATO will be handling multiple resource types, including vehicles with trailers and drawbars. PLATO will also handle the planning of these vehicles while taking into consideration:
- Vehicle restrictions (not all farms can handle all vehicle types),
- Loading bays (there are multiple tanks at the dairies),
- Movement between plants (certain plants prepare milk for other plants to use),
- Delivery windows at dairies and plants,
- Maintenance scheduling for appropriate servicing of vehicles,
- Ad-hoc loads of cream,
- Return loads with other products from Johannesburg back to the coast.
In the final phase of the project, PLATO will handle the staff planning for Parmalat, including scheduling of duty breaks, sleep-outs, overtime balancing, and so on.
David Lubinsky, OPSI Systems' managing director: “We are delighted that Parmalat South Africa has chosen PLATO to help streamline its primary distribution operations. This further extends our footprint in the dairy distribution sector, which includes all of South Africa's major dairy companies.”
