OPSI Systems Implements FLO for Exel Kenya
Johannesburg, South Arica, February 15, 2005: Exel (formerly Tibbet & Britten), the global leader in value-adding supply chain solutions , has selected OPSI Systems' FLO system to power their supply chain technology in Kenya.
History: Recently Tibbet & Britten was bought by the logistics company Exel. At the start of its operations in 1995, the company entered into a contract with Unilever Kenya, then called East Africa Industries (EAI) to provide the warehousing and distribution services. Since then, T&B has secured business from other large firms like East African Packaging Industries (EAPI), East African Breweries (EABL) and British American Tobacco (BAT). Such companies and many others have discovered that by outsourcing their warehousing and distribution operations, they can concentrate more intensely on their core competencies, manufacturing and product marketing.
Implementation: OPSI Systems implemented FLO at T&B-Exel Nairobi in November 2004. Upon drawing the specifications for the project, it was found that a key system was missing. There was no efficient way of sending captured orders through to FLO. We designed and built an applicatoin to input and maintain customers, products and orders. The interface allows the capturing of customers and immediately assigning a customer to a specific FLO customer class.
The quality of the map data provided by a Nairobi company was generally of a high quality and little to no fine-tuning was necessary at time of go-live.
The on-site implementation period from start to go-live took a little over a week. This is one example of good planning and a dedicated team on both sides!
