Barloworld Logistics chooses OPSI Systems' FLO for all of its Sites

Johannesburg, South Arica, April 20, 2003: Barloworld Logistics and OPSI Systems signed an agreement to roll out FLO to all of Barloworld Logistics' depots. This includes depots from cement distribution to animal feed, each having their own challenges and particular distribution environments. The FLO system has proved to be flexible enough to manage all of the depots requirements.
As part of Barloworld Logistics expansion plans, they have created a standardized IT environment to be used at all of their depots. This environment includes Baan as the ERP system, FLO for routing, scheduling and de-briefing, and Orchid for real time vehicle tracking. To achieve a seamless integration, all of the interfaces between Baan and FLO have been implemented using COM automation. As the orders to be delivered become available they are fed into Baan and the middleware layer automatically feeds these orders to FLO. The orders are scheduled and allocated to vehicles in FLO. Vehicle tracking information comes into FLO from the Orchid server and is used to compare the vehicle positions to the planned routes.
The deliveries are debriefed into FLO and FLO returns the information on what was delivered to Baan.

About Barloworld Logistics
Barloworld Logistics was established to take advantage of the integrated
logistics opportunities that have recently emerged. The opportunity to
simultaneously reduce costs and increase service levels to customers exists
because previously disconnected portions of the supply chain can now be
integrated in a demand network that quite simply change existing business
paradigms.
Whilst Barloworld Logistics’ key value add is its ability to integrate supply chains, its core capabilities include all the traditional logistics functions from Inventory optimization to transportation (see services).
So sure is Barloworld Logistics of its ability to add value through integration, that it is prepared to invest both intellectual capital and physical assets into solutions and to defer its reward until the benefits are evident to its customers.
